If you like things running smoothly, this is your kind of role.
As the Material Planner, you will play a key part in keeping production moving, making sure materials are where they should be, when they should be, to support production.
This is a detail-focused role where organisation, accuracy and communication matter. You will work closely with Production, Procurement and Planning to keep everything aligned and on schedule.
Smith Anderson is a family-owned manufacturer with 167 years of history and a strong future. They are investing in their people, processes and technology to stay ahead in sustainable paper packaging and this role plays a crucial part in that success.
What you will be doing
You will manage material availability against the production plan, manage stock levels, supplier lead times and factory requirements. You will analyse MRP data, raise and manage purchase orders, track deliveries and keep everyone informed so production runs without delay.
When plans change (and they will), you will adjust quickly, coordinating with colleagues, updating priorities and keeping material supply flowing.
Key responsibilities include:
- Running and analysing MRP reports and turning data into clear actions.
- Managing purchase orders and call-offs.
- Expediting materials to meet the production schedules.
- Track orders and chase suppliers to meet agreed delivery dates
- Monitoring stock levels to identify slow-moving or obsolete materials.
- Producing regular reports on shortages and supply risks.
- Keep the MRP system updated
- Working closely with Production Planning, Procurement, Logistics and Sales.
What you will bring
- Experience in material planning, scheduling or supply within a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay organised in a busy setting.
- Strong Excel and MRP/ERP system skills.
- Clear communication and confidence dealing with suppliers.
- A calm, problem-solving approach when priorities shift.
Why Smith Anderson?
Because it's a business that's built on long-term stability and continuous improvement. Still family-owned, they make decisions quickly, invest in their people, and take pride in what they do. You will join a supportive, down-to-earth team where your work genuinely keeps production running and the business growing.
If you're the kind of person who likes seeing the results of your organisation and planning every single day - this could be your next move.
